The Knapp: A Contemporary Dublin Kitchen Designed for Modern Living

In the heart of Dublin, The Knapp is a contemporary residence where thoughtful architecture meets refined, considered interiors. As part of the home’s newly extended, open-plan living space, Newcastle Design was commissioned to create a bespoke kitchen that would feel entirely at home within its surroundings.

The brief called for a kitchen that complemented the architecture while introducing warmth, character and a sense of permanence. The resulting design achieves a careful balance between effortless functionality and timeless appeal, creating a space that feels sophisticated without becoming overly formal.
At the centre of the scheme is a palette of deep-toned cabinetry, natural materials and subtle brass detailing. The darker cabinetry brings depth and definition to the open-plan room, while natural textures soften the overall aesthetic. Brass accents add a refined touch, catching the light and introducing a quiet sense of luxury. Grounding the scheme are natural stone worktops, chosen for both their tactile quality and enduring beauty.
Rather than treating the kitchen and living spaces as separate zones, this integrated approach allows the cabinetry to flow naturally throughout the room, creating a cohesive connection between cooking, dining and relaxing.

A key feature of the design is the custom-stained oak cabinetry, which extends beyond the main kitchen with a dedicated seating area. Framing the floor-to-ceiling window, the area creates an inviting destination within the wider space. It offers a moment to pause, enjoy the natural light and take in the view, while reinforcing the kitchen’s role as more than simply a place to prepare food. Here, the kitchen becomes an integral part of everyday life.
Every detail at The Knapp has been carefully considered, from the material palette and bespoke cabinetry finishes to the proportions and relationship with the architecture. The result is a kitchen that feels both highly resolved and effortlessly lived-in. The Knapp demonstrates how a thoughtfully designed kitchen can bring together functionality, warmth and enduring elegance, becoming a natural focal point within the modern home.
